BRITISH MOTORSPORT BLUE RIBBON EVENT ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL FIELD

The Aimshop.com Formula Ford Festival is a legendary event with a long history of attracting drivers not only from the UK and Republic of Ireland but also Europe and from as far afield as America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

This year is no exception with a number of international drivers already entered for the Festival which takes place at the iconic Brands Hatch circuit on the 26 – 27 October 2019.

These include the two American drivers who won this year’s ‘Team USA Scholarship’ to come to the UK in a comprehensive shoot-out at Road America.

They are Josh Green (aged 16) and Scott Huffaker (aged 19) who will both race with the Scholarship’s partner team, Cliff Dempsey Racing.

"We are very privileged to run the Team USA Scholarship programme for Jeremy Shaw." commented team boss, Cliff Dempsey.

“This will be our twelfth time running these young drivers - this year we are delighted to have Josh Green and Scott Huffaker.”

Programme founder and President, Jeremy Shaw is looking forward to returning to the UK saying “This will be the 30th year of the Team USA Scholarship and it's been 44 years since I first attended the Formula Ford Festival, at Snetterton in 1975, so I have very fond memories of what I always say is one of my favourite events of the entire season.”

Jeremy explains the main reason for starting this scholarship “A key aim of the programme is to provide opportunities for young American racers to compete on the international stage to expand their experience, exposure and knowledge of the sport.

"This year's scholarship winners, Josh Green and Scott Huffaker, weren't even a twinkle in their parents' eyes at that point in time, of course, but are excited to be competing in such an iconic race event."

These two young racers follow in some illustrious footsteps as previous scholarship winners include Indy car legend Jimmy Vasser, who loved every aspect of the festival and current Indy car champion, Josef Newgarden.

Cliff Dempsey Racing will also be running two cars for the Team Canada Scholarship programme.

In previous years one driver has been chosen to come to the UK for this prestigious event, but for 2019 there were two places available, won by youngsters, Zachary Vanier and Jonathan Woodridge.

Other BRSCC Avon Tyres National FF1600 Championship teams running international drivers include Kevin Mills Racing. New Zealand star, Callum Crawley, who competes in a Spectrum 015 in his home country joins the squad thanks to the Spectrum link.

Oldfield Motorsport has American racer, Bryce Aron who has only just turned sixteen, joining 2018 Festival winner and member of the McLaren Driver Development Programme, Josh Smith.

Team owner, James Oldfield is excited about this year’s festival saying "We were delighted when Josh (Smith) contacted the team to say he would like to compete at the Festival again this year and was quick straight out of the box at our Brands test day at the end of September.

"He brings a lot of experience to the team which will definitely help our other Festival entrant, Bryce Aron who caught our attention with his impressive performances and results considering his age and level of experience."

FF1600 veteran and member of one of Australia’s most successful racing families, Richard Davison, will make another appearance at the 2019 Festival.

From a little bit closer to home there are several European racers including Klaus-Dieter Haeckel, Dan Rene Larson, Marcel Berndt, Tom Cloet confirmed and 2019 National FF1600 Clubman Championship, John Svensson hoping to come over from Belgium.

As always, there will be a strong Republic of Ireland contingent including National FF1600 double Champion, Niall Murray, Morgan Quinn, Jonathan Browne and Trevor Delaney.

With over sixty drivers entered for the festival including last year’s National FF1600 champion, Ross Martin, recent Formula Ford winners Joey Foster, Michael Eastwell and Rory Smith it certainly has the potential to be one of the classics.

There is an action-packed timetable and the whole Aimshop.com Formula Ford Festival weekend will be live streamed for the first time.
