Eighth Round Pre-Race Report, Brands Hatch

The eighth and final round of another barnstorming season of single-seater racing takes place at the legendary Brands Hatch circuit this weekend.

Team Dolan’s Ross Martin clinched the Pro Championship at what was a scorcher of a weekend at Silverstone, both on and off the track. However, there will still be plenty of Formula Ford action to enjoy and questions to answer.

The Club Class title has yet to be decided with John Svensson and Adam Quartermaine vying for the top spot all season. They are both racing at Brands and will be two to watch. However, there are three other club entrants: Max Marzorati, Pascal Monbaron and Kenneth Cowie all aiming for top ten finishes.

This weekend also provides a chance to study the form ahead of the legendary Formula Ford Festival, which takes place on the 26 – 27 October at the Kent circuit. A number of the entries have taken the opportunity to race this weekend to help in their preparation for this highlight of the motorsport calendar.

Ross Martin is not racing, but Team Dolan is fielding four cars for Adam Quartermaine, along with leading rookie racer Morgan Quinn; ex F4 driver, Jamie Sharpe and Chris Middlehurst who is competing for the first time in 2019.

Another team with a great squad of drivers is Cliff Dempsey Racing. Once again they have championship contender Spike Kohlbecker; race winner, Jonathan Browne and James Clarke who has one more weekend to take the race victory he has been threatening all season.

These distinctive red and white liveried cars have been in the mix for wins and podium finishes, often battling each other, which has given the team owner some anxious moments, but the Formula Ford paddock relishes the close racing of the series.

B-M Racing’s Rory Smith arrives at the final round off the back of a stunning victory at Silverstone. 2019 was a season which promised much after taking the inaugural win back at Snetterton, but delivered less after technical issues with the Medina at the start of the year and some incidents in the second half.

Kevin Mills Racing also enjoyed a successful weekend at Silverstone with a clutch of podiums from Michaels Eastwell and Moyers. Eastwell will be looking to score his third victory from three rounds at Brands Hatch. He is joined at KMR by series returnee, rookie Scott Huntley and Michael MacPherson who has enjoyed a steady run of top 10 finishes after some issues mid-season.

The popular, Joey Foster, made his 2019 debut last time out at Silverstone where he took an impressive race victory. However, there were some engine issues, which Don Hardman has been working hard to fix for this race weekend.

Another outfit having their second outing of the year is Swift Cooper with the experienced Luke Cooper behind the wheel.

There is a packed programme of racing including a wealth of Caterhams, CMMC Super Saloons and the Teekay Couplings Production GTi Championship.

Qualifying starts at 09:00 on Saturday 28th September with racing from 13.45. The first race of the day on Sunday is at 10.50. For the full timetable and event information click here
